For Dad

Hi everyone.  I never thought Friday was going to get here.  It's been a hectic week, both at work and at home.  I've been working on something, which is a 'secret' for right now, you will have to come back on Monday, and I will reveal.

With Father's Day not so far away, I figured I best be working on some cards.  A few weeks ago I went through a zip lock bag of images that I have started and not finished over the years.  Well I came across this one, background was created and the wheat was stamped.  Hmmm... this could work for a Father's day card, so I went to work to complete it. 

To tell you the truth, I don't even remember doing this image, I know it's a Hero Arts wheat stamp, but as far as inks and stencil I couldn't tell you what I used.  

I added some gold krylon around the image edges, then layered it onto some black c/s.  I pulled out some burnt orange/terracotta colour cardstock to layer the image on then onto some SU river rock for my card base.

I used a Verve set to stamp DAD then cut it out using a spellbinders tag set, left the die in place and sponged some antique linen.  Tied some gold cording to the tag then adhered it to the back of the image.

Hello friend

I was so excited to receive my order from Power Poppy earlier this week, I couldn't wait to colour up one of the new images.

I ended up choosing one of the images in the set called Simply Camellias.

I stamped the image on cougar white 100lb card stock using black memento.  I then coloured the image using prismacolour pencils and blended with gamsol.

My good friend Nancy surprised me one day at work  by sending over a 6x6 paper pad from Prima called Butterfly collection.  OMG if you know me I love paper and especially since this is 'nature' based. The papers are to die for in this collection.  I knew I wanted to use it with this image.  After colouring I cut it our using a circle die using the out of the box technique so I could allow the leave to spill outside of the circle edge.  I layered this onto a new die set called circle delight, and delightful this is!.  For the scalloped edge on the prima paper I used scallop borders two.

To finish off I added the sentiment stamped in black versafine, silk taupe bow, glitter on the flower and  a tiny wooded heart.  I just love how this all came together.  The colours are a bit softer in real - so pretty.

Purple Mum

Hi everyone.  Well it is a very gloomy day here today in SW Ontario. It's been raining since late yesterday afternoon, and suppose to continue into the evening hours.  We did some planting in the gardens yesterday, so the rain is a nice welcome for them.

I guess today is a good day to be working on some cards.  The card I'm showing today is one of the Mother's Day cards I made a while ago.  I think this is the last of them - I told you I made a lot!

I'm using the Justrite stamp set called Mum.  I had used it before, so again I have used the same technique as my first card, but changed the colours and layout.

After embossing the flower onto some watercolour paper using white embossing powder I coloured the image using distress inks.  Once the image was dried I then coloured the background, first by wetting the area with water then going back in with ink on my brush and dropping it into the area and blending a bit.

I then cut it out using an oval die, and adhering it to white card stock that was cut from the Fleur de Elegance die. While the die was in place I sponged some dusty concord (very little ink on sponge) and lightly brushed it over the open areas on the die.  Once die is removed you can see where I had sponged the ink - so pretty.

To finish I made a bow with some dark purple seam binding ribbon, added a flower and leaf, and pearls.

Beautiful foxgloves

Hi everyone, I'm back today to share a gorgeous digital image by Power Poppy.  Marcella continues to wow us with the most beautiful digital flower images.  Let me show you what I did ....

After resizing and printing the image I first cut it out using Spellbinders Regal Frame (using the inside die).  I then coloured the image using copics.  I added some shading around the image using SU soft sky and celery inks.

After cutting the outside die from white c/s, I layered this onto a piece of memory box paper then a piece of SU blush blossom.  I then wrapped a piece of peach seam binding ribbon around the layers and under the white bars on the die cut.  I then layered this onto a piece of SU Soft Suede for my base. I added some foam tape behind the flower image and layered this onto the card.  Using my bow maker I made a bow and adhered it to the right side.  Finished off with coloured glitter from Art Institute.

I also made another card using the same copic colours, just changed the ribbon colour, card stock from peach to yellow  and designer paper.

Happiness is....

Hi Everyone, hope your week is going well.  One good thing is that it is Friday - whoot, whoot, but then on a sad note this is the end of my weeks vacation, although I do have Monday off, so back to work on Tuesday. 

Weather has been on the cool side this week hovering around low 50's some sun, some cloudy days, but that didn't stop Bill and I to venture out to do some birding.  We are suppose to climb back up into the 70's this weekend. So on the cloudy days I was able to create a couple of cards, since it's too dark for bird pictures.

Today I'm sharing a card using an older Penny Black stamp called Aspire.

I started by inking my flowers using Tombow markers, huffed then stamped onto some white card stock.  I then cut it out using a square nestabilities die.  For my sentiment, which is also from Penny Black, I stamped this using black Archival Ink onto some shimmer/pearl vellum.  I bought a few sheets of this years ago (yes I'm a hoarder- because I don't think you can buy this anymore). I wrapped the ends around my image and taped on the back side.  Layered the image onto a couple different pieces of blue card stock, then onto a Night of Navy card base.  I know you can't see the  background I stamped on the  base card very well, but I stamped a Justrite rose garden background stamp using versamark.  In real it is so pretty, but I couldn't get the camera to pick it up.  The card base actually looks black in the picture - so you will have to just imagine it - LOL.

To finish off I used my wink of stella clear pen for the flowers, a string of pearls and a small flower from Wild Orchid Crafts.

There you have it, a fairly simple card don't you think?

Blooming lilacs

I can't believe how fast a week goes by.  I haven't even had time to work on cards this week, with work, and yard work and bird migration it eats all my time, not complaining because the bird migration only lasts for about 3 weeks, so things should start to wrap up by next weekend. Good thing  I have a few cards I haven't posted yet which come in handy in a pinch.

Yes, I have been holding out on showing you this card, not sure why, I guess maybe I always had something else to post. I made this back when the digital image was released, which I'm thinking maybe February.  This is one of Marcella's Power Poppy Lilac digital images.

After printing my image I cut it out using an oval die and went out side the box on the leaf and stem.
The image was coloured using copics (listed below). I then layered this onto a piece of wistera wonder which was cut using  the Heirloom Legacy die.  Background paper is by Memory Box.  I added a couple pieces of white silk ribbon which was coloured using copic marker V20.  I then popped the image piece on top using dimensionals.

Finished off with some pearls and glitter.

Gentle Whisper

Hi everyone.  Happy Monday, and it was a happy day for me, and for my husband Bill.  You know how much we love to follow the bird migration, well today we had the day  off and headed out to Rondeau Provincial Park to hopefully see the "Prothonotory Warbler". After about an hour of waiting in the area he has been spotted he arrived, and he is beautiful.  This is one bird that is on our 'lifer' list.  I will share pictures once we get through the next couple of weeks of bird migration. 

I still have a couple more Mother's Day cards to share.  This one is using one of Penny Black's stamp called Gentle Whisper.

I started by inking by stamp using memento inks, then stamped it onto some MFT Naturals card stock.  I then applied the inks onto an acrylic block, used a wet paint brush, and add some more colour to the flowers.  I then used a  rectangle die to cut out the image.  I didn't like the way it looked, so I used on of the dies for spellbinders A2 curved borders one.  I then edged the edges using my gold kyron pen.

The image was layered onto a piece of designer paper from Prima - Firefly, then on to a piece of cream. I tied a piece of sparkly light pink chiffon ribbon around the image then adhered this to my card base.

I added some Art Institute glitter to the flowers and sequins to finish off.

Vintage Hycinthia

Hi, I'm back today with another Mother's Day card to share.  I have so many Flourishes stamps that have never seen ink and this one in particular was one of them.

I remember my Mom always had these flowers growing in the garden, so pretty in the blue/purple tones.  I wanted to use this new paper pack so I went with a orange/red colour of flower.

I stamped the image using black memento onto some white card stock.  I then coloured the image using copics then used spellbinders labels twenty nine to cut it out.  I left the die in place then sponged some antique linen around the edges.

The orange/red layer under the image was cut using one of the dies from the MFT blueprints #15 set.
In triming the background paper down to size I made sure to leave some of the wording - like at the bottom of the card - let your beautiful soul shine - just love that.

Finishing touches include stitching, button, twine, glitter and some lace ribbon with blue velvet running through the middle.

Little Angel

Hello everyone, hope you had a good week.  It's really starting to feel and look like spring around my neck of the woods.  Love this time of year when everything starts to grow, the smell of fresh lawn cut, and the nice warmer temperatures.  It's suppose to reach low 70's this weekend, so that means lots of yard work to get done.

Anyway, I had a request to make a baby card using Winnie the Pooh as a theme.  Apparently the babies room is done in Winnie the Pooh.

This is what I came up with, very simple.

I used the baby die from Papertrey Ink for my focal point. This was cut from white card stock, then layered a piece of light aqua dp behind it.  I just so happened to have this piece of Winnie the Pooh paper, (I saw it at our local scrapbook store and thought - oh this might come in handy some day for my baby cards) - well it did.  

I added some PTI aqua silk ribbon and some Studio Calico wooden stars.  Not sure if you can see in the picture or not, but I used my wink of stella clear pen to go over the words to give it a bit of sparkle.

Watercoloured Mum

So looking forward to this coming weekend, not doing much of anything - hope to get out in the yard for a bit, but this week as been cold - a touch of winter has landed - a few snow flurries and hovering around the freezing mark - but weekend looks to be about mid 50's and sunny.

I'm back to share another Mother's Day card.  This one is something different at least for me.  I did some water colouring and loved the outcome.  See for yourself:

I started by stamping my flower on water colour paper -( I used 140lb cold press by Cartiera Magnani - it's kind of an off white but nice and  smooth - love it), using versamark and embossed it with white embossing powder. I then cut out the image using spellbinder labels 28 die.  I used distress inks to colour. To apply colour I used my teflon sheet or you could use an acrylic block to apply the ink to.

Once the flower and leaves were coloured and made sure it was dry (which really didn't take that long, or you could zap it with a heat gun), I then proceeded to do the background.  This is where I was kind of nervous.  I wet the background with my paint brush, made sure it was nice and wet then dipped my paint brush in some distress ink and started to colour the background.  You can see where my brush picked up some of the flower colour and it bled into the background - love the look!! To get a deeper shadow around the flower I went back in with some ink on my brush, but with a drier brush and not so diluted ink so the colour was not too washed out - does that makes sense?

I used spellbinders A2 Devine Eleoquence  die (I think this is one of my favourite dies) for the lacey background, adhered this to a piece of light aqua c/s, then adhered my image to the center of the die cut.  For my sentiment - which comes with this set I embossed it on a piece of vellum using white embossing powder, which was then wrapped around the card.  Because you can see through vellum I was careful as to where to add a drop of glue to tack it down - underneath the bow and underneath the turquoise sequin.  This was then layered onto my white card base.  To finish off I added some sequins and a seam binding ribbon bow.

I hope you can see the watercolour effect on the background, because in real it is pretty awesome!

Flowering branches

Spring has sprung! It was a beautiful day here, wind was a bit cool, but full sunshine.  We worked outside in the gardens removing all the dead growth from last hear.  I'm sure my back will pay for this later, but it's so nice to see the hosta's sprouting up through the ground and buds on the hydrangeas, butterfly bushes and trees.

Seeing the new growth makes me think of the card I coloured up on wednesday night. I'm talking about the newly released digital image from Marcella over at Power Poppy.  She never ceases to amaze me with her flower creations.  So without further ado here is what I created:
I am also entering this into Power Poppy's Pop of Pastel challenge.

After resizing I printed this onto Neenah white cardstock.  I then used spellbinders A2 Tranquil die and cut out the image.  Next I coloured using copics.  I then put the die back in place and sponged SU soft sky & distress peacock feathers around the outer edge and then a bit of shabby shutters in the center area.  I then layered this onto a piece of SU soft sky cardstock then onto my white base card.

Finished off with some glitter on the flowers, silk ribbon and pearls

Up, up and away

Hi everyone. Hope your week is going well.  I decided to play along in this weeks Stamping Bella challenge.  Theme is 'Happy Birthday'. 

I pulled out one of my newest images that was waiting patiently to be inked.  Here we have Uptown Bentley gets blown away.

I stamped Bentley on white cougar paper using black memento and coloured her using copics. Once she was coloured I cut her out using spellbinders rectangle die, using a smaller die so I could have the balloons reaching outside the die cut.  Since she was floating off I needed to place some clouds to ground her.  I used the paper towel and ink technique - tear a piece of paper towel, place onto your card and sponge ink using the paper towel as your stencil, continue to move the paper towel to form clouds - I really love this technique.

Once the card was done I added some sequins and glitter.

Bedelia and Betsy

I forgot I still had an Easter card that I did not post yet.  I made this for a co-worker to give to her daughter.  

I'm using one of Stamping Bella's newest images called Bedelia and Betsy go for a walk. Such a sweet image. This image is part of the Woodsie collection.

The image was stamped on white cardstock using black memento.  I then coloured the image using prismacolour pencils and blended with gamsol.  I used a spellbinder circle die to cut the image and then layered this onto a layer of purple c/s cut using the sb blossom die.

To cut the green designer paper and I used spellbinders A2 curved border.

To finish I added some seam binding ribbon, glitter, sequins and used my souffle pens to add some pink and lilac dots in the grassy area to represent some timy flowers

Mother's Day card #1 - pastels

I had a 4 day weekend this past Easter weekend, and I accomplished so much in  'card making'.  I'm working diligently on my Mother Day card orders.  I saw that Power Poppy's challenge this month is "Pop of Pastel' so decided to whip  something up that falls into that category and enter it into their challenge.  You can see all the details for the challenge here.

I'm using Marcella's digital image called "dancing with daffodils'.  This is one image that I will never get tired of colouring.  So many different colour combo's you could use, I can't wait to colour more.

After printing off the image, I pulled out my copics to colours -  but first I cut out the image using one of the dies in the spellbinder A2 devine eleoquence set.   Next I cut some MME paper using spellbinders labels 28, which was then layered onto a piece of Memory Box paper.  

I used some deep purple ribbon to pick up the colour in the purple flowers, which was tied on a diagonal.  Finished off with some glitter and some clear baubles from PTI.
