Springtime Tulips

Hi everyone.  I can't believe how fast this week has flown by. It's been a busy week, both at work and home.  I've been working on Mother's Day cards as well as Mark & Anna's wedding invitations. 

Today's card is a digital image from Power Poppy called "Tulips".

After resizing and printing I used copics to colour.  I then cut the image out with an oval die, left the die in place then sponged some antique linen around the top and shabby shutters around the bottom.

Designer paper is from Authentique - Springtime.  I did a top folding card this time - which I don't do to often.  I used a  corner rounder to round the bottom corners on all three pieces.

After adhering the dp to the  black card stock I tied some yellow gingham ribbon around the adhered this to my base card.

Finished off with some enamel dots and wink of stella clear pen for the a bit of glitter on the tulips.

Butterfly kisses

TGIF!  First of all, thank you for all the wonderful comments on Bill's photo's in my previous post. I will share some more next week.

For my card today I did some water colouring with my new set of Gansai Tambi paints.  Wow, these are such a treat to use, the colours are so vibrant and you only need very little paint and it goes a long way.

This image is called Butterfly Kisses from Penny Black. Another stamp I pulled from the archives!

Using watercolour paper I embossed the image using white embossing powder. I then taped down my watercolour paper so it would remain flat as I added the water.   I then added my paints to the image.  Once my image was coloured and dried (I used a heat gun to speed up the process) I went along and wet the paper around the image with a big fat paintbrush, then picked up some light colours and dropped it in, and with having laid some water down first the paints just move and blend.  To get the splatter, I made sure my brush was good and wet, picked up some paint and tapped the paint brush against my finger and voila - splatters! So cool - love this!

I cut out the image using spellbinders labels twenty eight die, then added some gold krylon marker around the edge.  I then layered this onto some aqua paper cut using spellbinders A2 devine eleoquence die, then onto a layer of white, then onto my card base.  

To finish I added some enamel dots. Another Mother's Day card for my basket (which has already sold :))

Potted primroses

Yay, the end of another work week, and looking forward in having the next 4 days off. Weather is suppose to be somewhat not to bad, so Bill and I hope to get out and do some more birding.  We have been getting out over the last few weekends, so I will have some photos shortly to share with you.

For my card today, I'm using a Power Poppy image called Potted Primroses.   

I stamped the image onto some white cougar 100 lb cs using black memento and my Misti.  I find lately my memento ink pad must be breaking down, I keep adding ink but just doesn't get that nice dark crisp image that I use to, so with using the Misti, you can stamp over and over and you get a clean crisp image because it stamps exactly in the same spot every time.

I then coloured the image using prismacolour pencils and blended with gamsol. I then cut the image out using spellbinders regal frame, left the die in place and sponged some antique linen ink around the outer edges.  Papers used are from Memory Box. I added a piece of a die cut to the right side of the image, I felt it just needed a bit of something. 

To finish off I added some sequins, lace and wink of stella clear.

This will go into my sale basket at work as a Mother's Day card.

The unfolding

Well lets try this again, I had the post complete, when to hit enter and for some reason I hit delete!! GRRRRRRR.....  so lets start again!

Hello there, Happy Monday, and it is my day off again - woohoot!!  We have a program at work if you work an extra hour every day you get every other Monday or Friday off, so I opt for the Monday. We are busy at work so the extra hour a day goes by fast.  I had lots of errands to do this morning, then after lunch I finally got around to taking pictures of the cards I have made over the last week or so.

The card I'm showing you today, I actually had the image done about 3 weeks or so ago.  This was just a practice piece, never thought it was going to turn out good enough for a card, but it did!

I'm using Penny Black's - The Unfolding

I didn't keep track of the inks I used because like I said this was just a practice piece.  I used Tim Holtz distress markers to colour the image, gave it a spritz of water then stamped onto some water colour paper. Once dry I went back in with my prisma colour pencils and added some darker shading to the flowers.  I used my new Gansai Tambi paints to do a wash around the image.  It does look a bit more green in the picture than what it really is in real.

Since this was suppose to be just a practice piece I cut my paper too small to do any fancy die cutting  with it, so I used spellbinders long rectangle die to cut it out.  I then took some white paint and a very wet paint brush, picked up the paint and splattered it onto the image. Once it dried you couldn't see to much of it but you can see a bit on the large flower.  I also did the same with my wink of stella gold pen, tapped the end to flick some gold paint on the image.

I tried layering the image onto some papers, but it was too distracting, so I opt to keep it simple. I used spellbinders scalloped border two to cut along the bottom.  I wasn't sure whether I should do the same to the back of the card or keep it plain. Would you of kept the back plain as I did or would you cut the back to match the front - would love to hear your thoughts on this?

To finished off I added some pearls and some silk ribbon.  Lesson learned - don't use silk ribbon when you have dry hands, the tiny pieces of dry skin seem to catch on the ribbon and snag it!

Card class #2

Today I'm sharing a  a couple of cards for my next upcoming class at Paper Pickle. My class dates are March 30 & April 6.  If you are local and interested, please call The Paper Pickle to reserve a spot.

My first card I started with some distress inks to cover my top layer. I then laid a stencil over part of it and used a baby wipe to remove the ink in the stencil openings (you can see the effect in the bottom left - yellow portion).  I then took a couple of background stamps, inked them and stamped off first, then stamped using a 2nd generation of ink to stamp in the top right corner and top left.  I used a mesh stamp and a fine script - I don't know how well you can see that in the picture.  I then stamped a Magenta queen's anne lace stamp using black versafine.  Finished with some black ribobn and a couple of enamel dots.

For the second card, I did some colouring using prisma colour pencils.  This is a penny black stamp set I'm using.  After it was coloured I cut it out and popped it up onto a piece of white c/s that was cut using a spellbinder circle delight die and then I sponged some distress tumbled glass for a bit of colour.  To finish off I added glitter, and piece of crochet lace and button.

Soaring by...

to say Hi!  Hello everyone.  Well it looks like a very gloomy day ahead with rain.  A great day to be doing some stamping don't you think?

My card today is using a Papertrey Ink set called - Everyday Button Bits.  There are so many pieces to this set to make a variety of images.  You just add a 'button' to finish off your image. 

I first made my frame by using spellbinders square dies. I then cut another piece to fit almost the same size, as the opening of the frame, then sponged some clouds using SU soft sky. I then stamped the basket part of the hot air balloons where I wanted them, then added the buttons. For the rolling hills I used some green card stock and MFT stitched snow drift die. 

I used some foam tape to raise the frame then added some punch flowers in the corner. For the embossed background I used my scor-buddy  - first score on a diagonal every 1/2" across, then turn to the next corner and score again across the page. (I hope I explained that correctly?).

Gift of spring

Hello everyone. I'm back tonight to share a card I made yesterday on my day off.  Not only did I manage to make a card, I cleaned up my stamp room. What a job that was, I came across stuff I didn't even know (well probably did but forgot) I had.  I have way too much stuff! I need to have a sale someday just to purge some of the stuff I never use.

So onto my card.  I needed an Easter card to pop in the mail along with the St. Patricks day card.
I'm using an Easter set from SU called - Gift of Spring.

I stamped the image using black memento and colouring using copics! After it was cut out using an oval die, I used my gold krylon pen around the edge. For the layer behind the image I did a colour wash onto some water colour paper.  I used spellbinder large oval scallop to cut it out.

The rest is pretty straight forward.  I added wink of stella clear pen on the flowers , added some ribbon and sequins to finish off.

Lucky Day

Hi everyone!  What a hectic week it's been, so glad it's the weekend, and actually I'm off Monday, so it's a three day weekend!

A friend had asked me to make her a St. Patrick's day card, which I usually do every year for her to mail to one of her friends.  I have very limited stamps for St. Patrick day, but this particular one I haven't used in a number of years (actually I forgot I even had it - I guess that's what happens when you have too many stamps!).  I'm using a House Mouse image called - Lucky Day.  

Rather than just make a plain ole' card I made my first 'shaker card'!

I started with the background.  I am so addicted to do the colour wash on water colour paper.  I just love this technique and you never get the same look twice! After doing the wash and letting it dry, I cut it out using a stitched rectangle die from MFT.

I stamped the image onto some white cougar c/s and used copics to colour.  This was then cut out using a circle s/b die.  To do the border I used a larger scallop circle die and also a circle die one size smaller than the circle die I used for the image.  I cut a piece of acetate and glued this to the back of the scallop border, then cut some foam tape and added it along the border. I then glued the image to my water colour background, added some sequins ( I really need to get some shaker card fillings) to the center of the image, then took the frame and laid it over the image.  Pressed down firmly to make sure the tape adhered. And there you go - my first shaker card!!

I added a couple of different colours of twine to finish this off.

Climbing clematis

Well hello everyone. I'm just popping in today to share another Power Poppy digital image card.

I'm using Climbing Clematis which can be found here.
After re-sizing I used my magic with my prismacolour pencils and went to work, and this is the end
result:

A few weeks ago I was in at our local copy center and they carry a small amount of 'scrapbook' supplies, but I came across a piece of 12 x 12 Fabscraps paper -OMG I fell in love with the colours on this.  As soon as I saw this paper I knew I was going to colour the clematis  to go with this paper. Sometimes it all just works out!

So as you can see I did some stitching around the image once is was layered onto some teal bazzill card stock. I used BG0000 copic to add some colour around the flowers and blended out with the clear. I added some glitter to the flowers, pearls and a bow.

Birdie with a gift

Hello everyone. I was suppose to be teaching my first of two classes tonight but unfortunately it was cancelled due to a potential winter storm, it has been postponed to March 9.  So this gave me a 'free' night so I decided to post a card I made on Monday.

For my card, I'm using a digital image from Digistamps 4 you.  I just love these cute birds, there is just something about them that makes me smile.

After re-sizing I coloured the birdie using prismacolour pencils and blended with gamsol.  This was then cut out using an oval spellbinder die and layered onto some white cardstock cut using spellbinders timeless rectangle die.

For the background paper I did some water colouring.  I taped down my TH water colour paper, and completely wet it down with my paint brush.  I applied some distress ink to an acrylic block, then picked up the colours using a wet paint brush, then laid the colours onto the wet water colour paper.  With the paper being wet, the colours tend to move and bleed - love the effect this give.  I heat set it and then went back in and added some more ink to add some deeper shades.  This was then cut using a MFT  stitched rectangle die.  I then layered this onto my card base.

I added some fun foam to the back of the timeless rectangle die cut to give it some dimension. Some purple and blue sequins were added as well as some glitter to the hearts on the present to finish this off.

a bit of grunge

Good morning everyone! Hope your weekend is going well.

Today I'm sharing a card I made for my future grandson - my son Mark is engaged to Anna who has 2 young boys -Ethan - who just turned 9, and James who is 5. So the card I made is for Ethan.  Anna and Mark had a party for him yesterday and we went up to the big city (London) to join in the fun.

I usually don't make kids cards - one - because I don't have anyone young to make them for, and second- because I don't usually get asked for kids cards - so with saying that I have very limited 'young boys' images/stamps.  So I racked my brain all this week trying to dig through my stamps to see what might work - everything seemed to old for a 9 yr old, and then I came across my  gorgeous grunge set from SU- perfect!

This is how it turned out:

I started by using the SU gorgeous grunge set and stamped away using pumpkin pie, bermuda bay, and black.

I used PTI - birthday die and cut 2 from black card stock.  I glued them together to give it a bit more thickness and stability,and was just going to glue to the front of the card, but then decided to inlay it into the card.  So I cut the birthday once again out of the front of my card.  I glued the black birthday sentiment into the negative portion of the card. I love the look by doing this - so cool. I then stamped 'it's your' in black versafine.

Once everything was put together, I needed something on the top portion of the card since it looked bare - so dug out my star dies and cut up a couple different sizes and ended up with the size above. I finished it off with a number '9' cut from my quickutz die set (I have not used this set in about 10 yrs!) I completely forgot I had this set. 

I'm really pleased on how this turned out, but I think I need to look for a couple of younger boy images so I will have these on hand for future.

Sneaky Peak day 5 - Stamping Bella

Hello everyone! I'm so excited to share you with you today a sneak peek from Stamping Bella's upcoming release on February 23rd.

This is Bunny wobble and the peony! Isn't this the cutest image ever! I love her.

 

I coloured her using prismacolour pencils and blended out with gamsol.  I then cut the image out using MFT arch dies (not sure on the correct name, I couldn't find it on the MFT website, it must be discontinued).  I then left the die in place and sponged some SU soft sky around the edges.

Designer paper is Prima - fairy flora.  

I ran a piece of pink silk ribbon through the top of the lace, wrapped this around the layer then tied a tiny bow with my bow easy.  Added some glitter and some enamel dots to finish this off.  Bunny wobble also comes with her own sentiment - 'It's your day".

Cards for upcoming class

Hello everyone.  I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.

I thought I would share with you today a couple of cards that I will be teaching at our local stamp store - The Paper Pickle   on Feb 24 & March 2.  If you are local and would love to take my class, please call the store to register, I believe the March 2 class is almost full.

The first card I started by stamping the image (Penny Black - charming) using black memento and then coloured the image using prismacolour pencils.  I also stamped off one of the flowers again (2nd from the right) coloured and popped it up.  Sponging was done around the edges,then I used a stencil for the top right corner, and applied more sponging to get the design to show.  To finish off I added some glitter and sequins.

For the second card I used a memory box flower die, cut it out of white cardsotck, sponged the stem and flower using distress inks.  On the layer (just before the card base) I sponged some distress inks, kept measuring how much I needed to extend the ink by placing my die cut scallop circle in place.  One I was happy with the sponged area I splatted some distress ink with a paint brush (love doing this, I need to do this more, love the look).  I punched some butterflies using Martha Stewart's butterfly punch, added colour with distress inks.  Finished this card off with a rhinestone in the center of the larger butterfly and popped the flower up.
