Faith & Hope

Today's card is one I have not done before, but have been asked if I have any of these types of cards. There is always a need for a nice 'pick me up' when someone is going through Cancer.  Most times it's a difficult situation where one never really knows what to say and sometimes a card can help do just that. I'm sure  we all know someone who has had it or as beaten it, and the struggles they go through.   A card is a nice way to reach out to them to show that you are thinking of them, and that you are there for them.

The set I'm using today is from PTI - Faith & Hope.  It's pretty straight forward, so won't go through all the steps to bore you.

Powerpoppy roses

I was so excited when I saw the Powerpoppy's July release was digital.  I love the option to be able to have the images now, rather than having to wait for them to be shipped.  Not only that, you can adjust them to the size you want.  I purchased all 3 images this month, and I didn't waste any time colouring them.  My first card is made from the digital image called Arranging Roses. I will be entering this for the
Peep of the Week challenge.

After printing the image I went ahead and cut it out using a spellbinder die - I learned the hard way too many times where I have coloured the image then cut it out and the die moved or  didn't cut right which ruined the image and after all the time spent colouring, it just isn't worth it, so I always cut it first then colour. I  coloured the image using copics and  the shading was done using prismacolour pencils and blended with gamsol. Sorry I never kept the list of colours, there was just too many.

After colouring I put the die back over the image and sponged some antique linen around die.  I then cut a light green layer from the same die and layered it in behind.  Designer paper is by Glitz design - beautiful dreamer floral.  I layered this onto a piece of SU Pink Piroquette, then onto the card base of this beautiful shade of green.

I finished of with some soft green silk ribbon, rosette and some pearls.  I also used my wink of stella pen to add a bit of sparkle to the roses.

The grillfather

Hey friends, hope your enjoying your summer weekend!  Warm enough were you are?  It's suppose to reach 100 again with the humidex - way to hot for me.  Thanks for all your concerns regarding my root canal.  All is well, no more pain. :)

Before I head out to my gardens to do some weeding I thought I should post my 3rd fathers day card as I mentioned in my last post.  Although, I guess you could use this for a birthday as well.

Here you go:

I stamped the image (Art Impressions) on 100lb cougar white c/s using black memento ink.  I coloured the image using copics, and I'm sorry I never kept a list of the colours.  After coloured, I added some grass using prisma colour pencils, then I cut out the image using the largest square nestabilities, left the die in place then sponged some SU soft sky and memento new sprout around the image.  I then layered this onto a piece of SU soft suede.  

Designer paper is from Basic Grey - Bowties. I used a piece of washi tape from Little B as a divider between the 2 pieces of paper.  I have a fair bit of washi tape but never think to use it.  I then layered this onto a piece of soft suede then a dark brown for the card base.

Finished off with a couple of stars use a star die from the MFT die-namics set - sun, moon & stars. I added a bow made from twine and then held it all together using a gold star brad.

There you have it  - an awesome 'masculine' card for that special guy in your life.

40th Wedding Anniversary

It's been a rough week last week, one of my back molars was giving me grief.  Lots of pain, I ended up having a root canal done yesterday.  So much better today, no more pain although my jaw is a bit stiff this morning because of the 5 needles I was given, and for keeping my mouth open for an hour, but as the day went on it was feeling better.

I was going to share my 3rd Fathers Day card I made, but thought I would change it up, you're probably board looking at 'guy' cards, I'm sure something pretty and feminine would be more pleasing to the eye.  I had a request from a friend at work for a 40th anniversary card for another co-worker.  Here is the end result:

I wanted to put their name on the front somehow, so I computer generated the sentiment then cut it out using a MFT flagstax die, then sponged the edges using Adirondak Lights - Willow.  I wanted a soft muted background so it wouldn't take away form the flowers so found these papers from Kaisercraft - On This Day.

For the leaves I used my new Memory Box die - Massa Leaf frame - cut from a piece of scrap from Basic Grey - perhaps. I love the variation of the colour of the leaves.  I then cut a circle from the bottom piece of dp - since I was layering other papers on top no one would see the circle cut out and I didn't want to cut into another piece - (I tell you I am a paper hoarder!) Adhered this over the leaves, I then used one of the punch out circles from back of the paper pack on top of the circle then layered it with a Memory Box - Chochitlan wreath.

I popped the sentiment up using pop up foam squares by Scotch (love these, they squish down, so when mailing it makes it much easier).  I then proceeded by adding an assortment of flowers - most were purchased from Wild Orchid Crafts.

Finished off with a little wooded heart from Studio Calico, glitter on the flowers and pearls.  Do you think I put too many pearls on the card?

This was early one Saturday morning, we were up at 3:30 am and drove up to Burlington (2.5hr drive) to catch a sunrise.  This was the view from the shores of Lake Ontario looking across the way to the Hamilton Skyway.  It was a very calm morning as you can see the lake was like glass, and the sun's glow was beautiful.

On one of our stops along the lake later in the morning, we came across this female mallard, soaking up the sun.  Love the haziness around her.

Wonderful marvelous you!

Sorry I haven't posted sooner this week, I thought I would of had time, but life is just too busy sometimes.  I've been working overtime, and today I was up in London visiting my Dad for Father's day as well as celebrating his birthday which is next week.  We gathered at my sisters, had a bbq, lots of eats and laughs.  It's always good getting together with family, it just seems we don't do it enough.  Everyone has such busy lives.

Okay on with my card.  If your like me 'masucline' cards are the hardest to do.  After making the last card I posted for my Dad, I was struggling to come up with another.  I woke up on Wednesday morning, with an idea so I put it into action before heading off to work.  It worked up very fast, I used MFT's dies to help it along.  

I started with a 4x4 confetti cream c/s.  I then inked up my Penny Black hot rod using Distress Paints.  I applied bundled sage over the entire image, then went in with peeled paint here and there, and then finished off with some forest moss - spritzed with a bit of water then stamped.  I love the effect this gives.  I then took a leave from PTI - turning a new leaf - and inked it with MFT grout gray and stamped it in the top corners and the bottom right.  I then inked it again using peeled paint, stamped off a bit then over stamped in the top corners. I then sponged around the edges using distress pumice stone then a bit of brushed corduroy. Next I used the sentiment from Verve - wonderful marvelous- and stamp it using PTI chocolate brown. 

Next I cut a flag tag using one of the dies from MFT blueprints #12, added a brad and the wrapped some twine around it and then adhered to the front of the card.  For the middle layer again I used one of the dies from MFT blueprints # 14.  I really love these blueprint die sets.

Finished card measures 5.25 x 5.25.  I know I will be making more of these in different colours.

How wonderful life is....

Just thought I would post this before heading off to bed.  Last week was a busy week, and so was the weekend.  We had our year end choir party Sunday afternoon - lots of fun as always.  It's so nice getting together and spending time with friends.  

I've been working on getting Father's Day cards done for my sale basket at my hairdressers.  I go tomorrow night, so wanted to make sure I had a selection to take.  This is one of the ones that I'm taking.

It was a pretty simple card once I decided what I was going to do.  I have been buying MFT's  die-namics blueprints die sets - boy do they ever take the guess work out of card making.  The larger dies basically make up your card base with layers.  For this card I used blueprints # 14, and here is my card.

I stamped the verse from Verve onto a  piece of Basic Grey Pyrus.  This series of paper is from a few years back.  I have so much of Basic Grey it isn't funny.  I could probably open a little stamping shop with all the supplies and papers  I have.  I'm good at hoarding it, but I'm slowly diving into it to use it up. The top 3 layers are from the blueprints #14 die set, the row of flags is a die from Verve.  The card base is confetti olive toned c/s.  So there you have it, like I said it was an easy card once I got going at it.  I made a couple of these.

A nice surprise and a card

I have some exciting news to share with you.  Remember the Powerpoppy card I entered into their sketch challenge ...... well I won the challenge- how exciting is that!!  I rarely enter challenges, basically because I don't have the time, but last week I had some extra time and decided to get my mojo back by trying  out the sketch. You can see the announcement here. Thanks to Marcella for designing such lovely stamps to create with! This was such a lovely surprise to start off my week.

So last night I decided to work with another  digi image I had printed off a couple of weeks ago, but with being on holidays I never got around to colouring it up.  I'm using the gerber daisy digi image.

After printing off the image I used one of the dies from Spellbinders Majestic Labels Twenty-Five set.
Leaving the die in place I sponged some new sprout memento ink around the image. I then coloured the image - I will list the colours below.

To make the card base I used Spellbinders Scalloped Borders Two. Using these borders really adds to your cards, I need to use them in different ways more often.  I have 4 of these sets, so I have lots of different options for borders.  I then cut my designer paper using one of the plain scallop dies from the same set so it would fit accordingly.   I used dimensionals to raise the image off the card base, added some pearls along the border, glitter in the center of the daisies and a bow, made with variegated chiffon ribbon.

I debated whether or not to put a sentiment on the front, but decided not to.  This way I can use the card for many different occasions rather than one - if a sentiment was in place.

Good morning all.  I'm back today to share some of Bill's pictures he took when we were up in Algonquin Provinical Park Easter weekend.  Even though Easter was later this year, and due to the harsh long winter there was still snow up there, but it was so worth the trip.  Grass reflections in Costello creek ~

 

As were we sitting beside  Costello creek early one  morning watching the Common Mergansers, a blue heron flew in and landed on this log - so cool!

Evening Grosbecks, which are rare to see where we live, so it was nice to be able to capture their pictures up in Algonquin.

 And then of course, the highlight of our trip -- to see some Moose!

Powerpoppy challenge

Hi everyone.  You are probably wondering where I have been (or maybe not!).  Well I was on vacation since May 16th, just returned back to work today.  Bill and I took a trip up to Sault Ste. Marie Ontario.  We did (well Bill did) lots of picture taking along the shores of Lake Superior.
We spent a lot of our time doing the hiking trails in Lake Superior Provincial Park.  It is so beautiful up there.  As you can image because of the harsh winter they still  have ice/snow along the lake edges, some of them are huge like small glaciers! There is also snow along some of the trails that are in the hills and in the interior of the forest areas. Upon returning home on thursday night, I noticed that my gardens needed some attending to.  Because of the warmer weather and rain we had while gone, everything is up and in bloom (and so were the weeds!). So needless to say I spent a few days tending to the gardens.

So tonight I decided that I needed to get some cards made.  I decided play along with the challenge going over on 
Powerpoppy's blog.

I used the gladioli digi image.

After printing off the image I coloured using copics.
I then cut out the image using Spellbinders Opulent Ovals - I actually cut out the image before cutting - I've learned from past experience that something can go wrong and you ruin your coloured image!

I layered my image on a piece of light lime green that was cut using the larger die from the same set. I used dimensionals behind the image to lift it a bit.

Here is a picture of the glitter, since it's hard to see in the above picture.

Poppies of a different colour

Hope everyone is having a good week.  I'm back today to share a card with you that I will be teaching in June at our local stamping store The Paper Pickle.

I've made a card using this stamp before, but this time I coloured the Poppies Yellow! I googled poppies and I was surprised to see the different variation of colours for them.  Light pink, coral, yellow/orange, deep red, orange, so I decided to go with the yellow/orange tone.  It's a colour I don't use much when I make cards, so needed to step outside my comfort zone.

I used copics to colour and shading was done with prismacolour pencils.  I love the outcome of these poppies.  I'll list all supplies below.  I finished off with glitter and made some small dots using white liquid pearls.

Memory box flowers

Hi everyone.  So sorry for not posting sooner.  I can't believe it's been almost 2 weeks since my last post! Yikes! where does the time go?

I have actually 2 cards to share with you today.  Simple fast cards.  I needed a couple more cards to finishe off my friends card order, and saw that I had already had some backgrounds done when I was playing around with some stencils and just never got around to making them into cards.  I also had some new memory box dies waiting to be used.  This is what I came up with:


Memory box texture honey comb stencil, MB bountiful sunflower, sentiment from PTI,  PTI ink for the sunflower - spring moss, simply chartreuse, orange zest, classic kraft, harvest gold.  I'm not sure of the background stencil colours since this one was done over a month or more ago.  Card stock - SU marigold morning.

 

Memory box texture honey comb stencil , MB delightful peony outline, sentiment from PTI, distress inks - broken china & shabby shutters for the stenciling, PTI inks for the flower - spring moss, simply chartreuse, hibiscus burst. Card stock PTI Aqua mist

Finished off both cards with some ribbon, pearls and sequins. I added some glitter to the flower portion of the card using my wink of stella pen. My friend absolutely loved these!

Well I have no more cards in my stash to share so I best be getting creative.  It's kind of hard to be indoors when there is so much yard work that needs tending to, but I'll try to get something made to post next week.  Have a wonderful weekend.

Spring Poppies

Hi- sorry I have not posted during the last week.  Bill and I spent Easter Weekend up in Algonquin Provincial Park, so I had things to get ready, and just did not have time to post.  Weather was good for the most part, but they still have lots of snow on the trails, lakes are still frozen over, but most of the streams are running with plenty of water.  The amount of water they have up there compared to last year is unbelievable, thanks to a never ending winter with lots of snow.

Anyway, hopefully I will have some pictures to share with you once Bill goes through them all.

I didn't think I had a card to post, but was looking through my files and realize I never posted this one. This is a digital image from --  A day for Daisies and the image I used can be found here - spring poppy bunch.

I coloured the poppies using copics, then sponged some green and blue ink around the image.
I cut a square out of green pre-embossed c/s 4x4".  I then cut a circle out of the square. Used pop dots to raise this over the image. I stamped the sentiment on some cream c/s, then trimmed both ends into flag ends, then sponged some antique linen around the edges.  Added a wooded leaf which was sponged with some antique linen, and some glitter on the poppies to finish this off.

A friend ...

Hope everyone is enjoying there weekend.  I spent the day on the road today.  Bill and I headed down to Ojibway Park in Windsor to have a peak at what if any 'new birds' have flown in due to migration.  Nothing new, just the usual suspects - as I always say-, but I did have a deer eat from my hand.  There were about 10 all standing out in the open area along the walkways and a friend of mine had some feed and they would come right up to you.  There were a couple of fawns - so precious, I just wanted to hug them - but I didn't.  We also saw a pair of Wood ducks, Bill managed to get the male in flight - gorgeous.  After that we headed down to Pt. Pelee, we walked one of the trails and came across some Golden Crown Kinglets - those little guys just don't stand still.  Bill had a hard time trying to take pictures because they are constantly moving, but.... he did manage to get some beauties.  I can't wait until migration is in full swing.

The card I have to share today, is an image I stamped a few weeks ago, after I stamped it, it wasn't quite what I thought it would look like (colour wise), so I tossed it in my 'maybe someday bucket'.  So one night I was going through some papers looking for something else, when I came across some Memory Box paper that caught my eye.  I pulled it out and remembered that image I had stamp off a few weeks ago, pulled that out and Oh my, it matched perfectly.    Morale of this story, always keep your 'duds' because you never know when they might come into play.  Here is my card:

 

 Stamp is from Penny Black (an older stamp), and I coloured right on the stamp using Distress Markers - weathered wood, milled lavender, & shabby shutters, then spritzed and stamped. Paper is from Memory Box.  For the flourish along the left side is from Memory Box.  Finished off with glitter, some sequins (white and coloured using copic colour BV11), and some mauve seam binding ribbon.

Has spring arrived yet?

Is spring ever going to get here?  You can hear the birds in the wee hours of the morning singing their songs, my bulb flowers are pushing through the ground, which is usually the sign of spring, but the temperatures  and weather are very slowly at coming around.  Rain and high winds yesterday and into today, tomorrow is suppose to be around 50F (10C) and sun! I'm just itching to get outside and putter around in the gardens.  

Since the outdoors remain untouched, I thought the next best thing is to colour up something pretty - like flowers! 

I had this LOTV image for a while now and it was just begging to be used.  So this is what I did with it:
